Goal
Approach
Create a visual language for a 70-minute visual trip through the fairy-tale world of the Efteling.
Develop a flexible system of shadow worlds with overlapping elements that tell the story of each scene in a unique way, while staying true to Eftelings magical aesthetic.
In collaboration with GAIIA Studio, I created a film for a 70-minute live show by the world-renowned Metropole Orkest celebrating Efteling. As lead creative, I’ve opted to build a handcrafted visual world inspired by nostalgia, fairy tales and shadow theatre.
Drawing from Indonesian Wayang Kulit and the work of Lotte Reiniger, 16 iconic stories and rides were translated into silhouettes, light and movement. More than 1300 wooden elements were laser cut, painted and animated in sync with the music to bring the world of de Efteling to life.
